Tiffany is a sophomore at West Chester University. She is majoring in Nutrition with a minor in Contemplative Studies. She is also part of the yoga teacher-training program. Career wise, she aspires to help make lunches healthier in schools and cafeterias. After high school Tiffany went on a three-month trip to Ireland. She spent this time intent on finding herself and exploring what life has to offer. One of the first things she decided was that she needed to start practicing yoga when she returned home. This would prove to be the beginning of whole new life for Tiffany.
Her yoga journey began three years ago. At this time, Tiffany was working through a very traumatic life event. Yoga was instrumental in helping her walk through this difficult time. It also helped her cope with the anxiety caused by this new chapter of her life. Soon, yoga was changing other parts of her life. She began changing her eating habits and is now a vegetarian. It also changed who she was as a person, as she says she was more open to new things and she felt more mature. Yoga became a source of motivation. She began to enjoy challenging herself and taking her practice to new levels, trying new postures and poses.
Yoga has taught Tiffany the importance of being mindful. She says, “It taught me how lucky I am as a person to be where I’m at. All it takes is a change in attitude.” Yoga has not only become an outlet for stress and anxiety, but a safe haven full of self-care and gratitude; not only a place of peace and restoration, but also a challenge where fear is not accepted. It gives Tiffany a break from her busy school schedule and from the pressure that comes with being a young adult.
Going forward, Tiffany is excited to continue her yoga practice and hopes to be able to teach it. She has already started to bring this dream to life, as she is instructing some classes on campus at West Chester this semester. Yoga has been an instrumental piece in Tiffany’s life. It’s so great to see her paying it forward and helping other people learn the practice. “Don’t seek, don’t search, don’t ask, don’t knock, don’t demand- relax. If you relax, it comes. If you relax, it is there. If you relax, you start vibrating with it.” ~ Osho
